Ghost of Tsushima

My favorite video game of 2020 was the samurai-based game Ghost of Tsushima, which is based on the first historical Mongolian invasions of Japan, which I believe is a highly underutilized historical event in media. I also very much enjoyed playing as a samurai, which is not something seen much in video games and would make for a very interesting character to play as. I also enjoy how it takes an untraditional approach to traditional Asian themes, and a realistic approach to honor in the context of a brutal war. Jin Sakai, the main character, is also compelling as the lead where the samurai is conflicted between honorable combat and the realistic nature of fighting an opponent who does not fight fair. I also think the open-world map of feudal Japan is both beautiful and stunningly realized, with a commendable approach to Japanese history and culture. Combat in the game is also fun and includes sword combat, archery, and stealth which is needed when fighting groups of Mongols. Overall, I hope to see more of the franchise in the future as the game should be a multi-game franchise.
