I am of Filipino descent. There is an expectation for everyone to become either a doctor, nurse, or government bureaucrat in my entire extended family. None of those options appealed to me. I wanted to tell stories.

As the rebellious one in my family, I honed my skills by joining the yearbook and newspaper team at my high school and eventually earned a New media degree from SDSU. My parents were initially furious at what I chose for a major, but they eventually left me alone so I could focus on good grades and creativity.

I was emboldened to write House of Sol Alpha through my involvement in Sigma Nu, the fraternity I joined in college. My chapter was very diverse in terms of ethnicity, majors, and thought. being exposed to many different viewpoints allowed me to create the 'House of Sol Alpha' series as authentically as possible.

Two Asian male characters in Part Two, David and Jax, are guys who don't take crap from, anyone. David is part of Gen Z, and Jax is a Baby Boomer. They often collide with each other because of differing opinions but eventually work things out.

When you're faced with pleasing your family or following your own path, choose the latter, or you'll end up regretting it for the rest of your life, as many have privately told me. It may not be an easy path, but honor is more important to me than my life.

As he goes through with the mission, the past threatens to put the Fraternity in danger as the Founder of Umbra Omega stalks about, waiting for the right time to take his revenge, all while there is fraternal infighting.
