#StopAsianHate SHORT FILM (TW: Violence)

Directed by: Reangsei Phos

Over the course of a couple of months, I started planning a short film that would serve as a PSA (Public Service Announcement). The film follows an elderly Chinese woman who walks home and finds herself as a victim of a cruel hate crime. My goal for this film is to spark meaningful discussions amongst communities, give insight into what it's like to be Asian during the pandemic, and for the film to go viral. The film will be accessible as much as possible by making it straight to the point with a runtime of 2 minutes-wasting no time at all. Anyone watching it should feel enraged, no matter what race they are. Due to the subject matter, we had to make sure that we were careful as to what we portray and how we portray the things on the screen. We were able to get people prominent in this movement such as Benny Luo (CEO of NextShark) and artivist (Artist + Activist) China Mac to oversee the story and direction of the project.

Here is the video that was directed:

Breaking Stigma of Asian Stories through "Talisman"

By: Reangsei Phos

Having grown in an Asian household, my family is intensely superstitious. My Mom would put onions in the corner of every room, tape a talisman on every door, and make sure that my bed was pointed in a certain direction to avoid any bad energy. Growing up, Asian stories and representation were scarce in Hollywood and the only Asian characters I saw were kung-fu masters, nerdy sidekicks, and senseless foreigners. I subconsciously ended up defining myself as the inaccurate depictions of those characters.

I wrote a short film and will direct my first legitimate short film, Talisman. With this film, we want to create truthful stories about our culture to the world, based on our very own experience. The film is about a superstitious Chinese family that moves into a new home, but the son believes it to be haunted.
